Memory Care may be necessary when behaviors related to Alzheimer’s/dementia make it unsafe for seniors to live in an assisted living community, adult family home, or nursing home. With memory impairment, it is important to have 24-hour support and structured activities to ensure safety and quality of life. Most memory care facilities have secured or locked areas to ensure none of the residents wander off; this type of facility is necessary for seniors exhibiting significant exit-seeking behaviors. In many memory care facilities, within the secured areas, residents have access to outdoor walking paths and/or gardens.
